To and Fro

On her website, Ann Coulter is making the argument that words mean nothing to liberals. The argument has come about due to the media poking fun at Hillary Clinton for thinking the popular vote has any significance. This argument is directed toward conservatives, to entertain, and toward moderates, to convince. She uses satirical writings, based on her beliefs in conservative values, to attract and maintain her audience.

Coulter’s basic argument is that liberals possess no true beliefs, that they just say whatever promotes their agenda at the time to whomever their audience is. Her assumption relies on the fact that the electoral vote is the law and that the popular vote is virtually meaningless come election time. Her argument seems to be reasonably clear.

She claims that words mean nothing to liberals and she supports it with evidence from past elections. She argues that when Gore won the popular vote in the 2000 presidential election the mainstream media claimed he was cheated, but now they’re asserting that Hillary taking any credit for winning the popular vote in this year’s Democratic primary is absurd. The media has contradicted itself.

Her argument successfully convinced me because I think the evidence is clear. Of course Coulter has a bias, but she’s not pulling her argument out of thin air. I had no opinion on this matter before hand, but now I think that she may have a point about liberal mainstream media.

The political significance of this article is that some of the mainstream media manipulates the reporting of factual events to advance their agenda. This manipulation affects who wins and loses in the political process because uninformed people have a tendency to formulate their stance based on the shallow impressions they derive from the mainstream media. This article has caused me to have a greater understanding of how voting works through the Electoral College.

Putting aside the fact that this post was created purely for an assignment, and the possibility that this is just plain liberal bait I would have to disagree with the substance of this blog post.

Anne Coulter serves a growing market of Americans disenfranchised to the political system. As outlined in Matt Tiabbi's "The Great Derangement" We see them everywhere; 9/11, Moon Landing & JFK Assassination conspiracists, are a growing population of American citizens that are seeking ever stranger answers to simple un-desirable and un-attractive reality.

You may argue that I am not addressing the point Anne Coulter made about the popular vote as portrayed by the media from one instance to the other. However to argue within a context Coulter has established is equivalent to monkeys throwing crap at each other.

Anne Coulter loses her credibility when she makes blanket statements such as "All Liberals", a demonization of a class of people that is difficult to assign to any individual person. Sure we have characters in the media that are the personification of certain political views, but these are just characters and extremes. Most people in the United States have a true amalgamation of beliefs and principles derived from the very richness of our experience and education.

The assertion in your own post about the "Liberal Bias Media" is an absurd projected image created by various authors other media producers as a boogeyman of sorts. It is a tactic of fear that has it's roots in McCarthyism, but is used to sell opinions versus garnering political power at the expense of others.

In spite of all the logical arguments, the social precedence and morality that refutes Anne Coulter, I like to think about things in terms of dollars. In business we are always thought to follow the money. In this case, following the money leads me to believe less in the authenticity of anything Coulter produces because she resembles more of a marketer who sells us opinions to feed our inner demon of bigotry and hatred which most likely stems from fear. It also makes me less likely to believe in a Liberally biased media which has it's financial base in advertising dollars, and if at risk to anything is at risk to being overly commercialized and the lapdog to corporations than the vanguard of the so called "Liberal Cult".

Anne Coutler is no demon, and definitely not a saint. If I had my guess, when she clocks out she probably has a fairly moderate view on politics and life. However when she clocks in, her and a team of writers and producers start churning out the next sensationalist candy.
